Integrated Bluetooth Smart

The Victron Phoenix Smart IP43 24/16 (1+1) 230V charger has an integrated wireless solution for configuring, monitoring, controlling, updating and synchronising the Phoenix Smart IP43 chargers.

Phoenix Smart (1+1): two outlets for charging 2 battery banks

The second output, limited to approximately 4 A and with a slightly lower output voltage, is intended to fully charge a starter battery.

Phoenix Smart (3): three full-current outputs for charging 3 battery banks

Each of the outputs can supply the full rated output current. But the three outputs combined can never exceed the rated current of the charger.

Automatic voltage compensation

The Victron Phoenix Smart IP43 24/16 (1+1) 230V charger compensates for the voltage drop of the DC cables by gradually increasing the output voltage when the DC current increases. Please refer to the manual for more information.

6-stage adaptive charging algorithm: initial charging – absorption – reconditioning – floating – storage – refreshing

The Phoenix Smart Charger features our well known «adaptive» battery management system that can be configured for different battery types. Its «adaptive» function will automatically optimise the charging process according to the usage of the battery.

The right amount of load: adaptive absorption time

When the discharge is low (e.g. a yacht connected to the pontoon) the absorption charging phase is shortened to avoid overcharging the battery. After a deep discharge, the absorption charge time is automatically increased to ensure a full recharge of the battery.

Preventing damage due to over-gassing: BatterySafe mode

If, in order to charge a battery quickly, a combination of high charging current and high absorption voltage has been chosen, the charger will prevent damage from over-gassing by automatically limiting the rate of voltage increase once the gassing voltage has been reached.

Reduced ageing and need for maintenance when the battery is not in use: storage mode.

The storage mode is activated when the battery has not been discharged for 24 hours. In storage mode, the float voltage is reduced to 2.2 V/cell (13.2 V for 12 V batteries) to minimise gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week, the voltage is brought back up to the absorption level to «equalise» the
battery. This function prevents electrolyte stratification and sulphation, the main causes of battery failure.

Simple on/off control can be implemented by connecting a relay or optocoupler with open collector output from a Li-Ion BMS to the remote on/off port. Alternatively, it is also possible to have full voltage and current control via Bluetooth.

Fully programmable loading algorithm in the

The charging algorithm can be programmed via Bluetooth or the VE.Direct interface. Three pre-programmed charging algorithms can be selected with the mode button (see specifications).

Optional external battery voltage and temperature sensor via Bluetooth

A Smart Battery Sense sensor or BMV-712 Smart battery monitor can be used to communicate battery voltage and temperature to one or more Phoenix Smart IP43 chargers.

Remote On/Off

• The remote on/off consists of two terminals: H remote and L remote.
• A remote on/off switch or relay contact between H and L can be connected.
• Alternatively, the H terminal can be set to a higher level or the L terminal can be set to a lower level.

VE.Direct interface

For a wired data connection to a GX device, such as the Victron Cerbo GX MK2 Monitoring – BPP900451100to a PC or other devices. It also enables the Instant Readout feature, through VictronConnect remotely from the VRM.

Programmable relay

It can be programmed with the VE.Direct interface or a Bluetooth-enabled device to trigger an alarm or other events.

Synchronised charging
