The Smart PV optimiser is a DC-DC converter that is installed on the back of the solar panels of a photovoltaic system. It manages the maximum power point (MPP) of each module to improve the energy yield of the system. It is also responsible for functions such as shutdown and module-level management. Optimisers can isolate the operation of a panel that is affected by shadows or has a different orientation to the rest of the line of panels in the installation.
