The Victron Blue Smart IP22 24/16 (1) is the new professional battery charger with integrated Bluetooth. The chargers of the Blue Smart IP22 family can be used in devices both in the workshop and in motor vehicles, such as (classic) cars, motorbikes, boats and motorhomes.

The wireless solution for monitoring voltage and current, changing settings and updating the charger when new features become available.

High efficiency

With an efficiency of up to 94 %, these chargers generate up to four times less heat compared to the industry standard. And once the battery is fully charged, power consumption is reduced to 0.5 watts, five to ten times less than other manufacturers’ equipment.

6-stage variable loading algorithm: testing – initial loading – absorption – reconditioning – floating – storage

The Victron Blue Smart IP22 24/16 (1) charger features «adaptive» battery management controlled by a microprocessor. Its «adaptive» function will automatically optimise the charging process based on the usage of the battery.

Fully programmable charging algorithm

With the Bluetooth application, the absorption, float and storage voltages as well as the reconditioning setting and the temperature compensation value can be programmed. After enabling the expert mode, the app allows virtually all parameters and time limits used by the charging algorithm to be changed.

Storage mode: reduced ageing and need for maintenance when the battery is not in use

The storage mode is activated when the battery has not been discharged for 24 hours. In storage mode, the float voltage is reduced to 2.2 V/cell (13.2 V for 12 V batteries) to reduce gassing and corrosion of the positive plates.

Once a week, the voltage is brought back up to the absorption level to «equalise» the battery. This function prevents electrolyte stratification and sulphation, the main causes of premature battery failure.

It also charges lithium-ion batteries.

Lithium-ion batteries are charged with a simple initial charge – absorption – float algorithm.

Fully discharged battery recovery function

It will start charging even if the battery has been discharged to zero volts. It will reconnect to a fully discharged lithium-ion battery with the internal disconnect function.

NIGHT and LOW setting

When NIGHT or LOW modes are active, the output current is reduced to a maximum of 50 % of the nominal output and the Victron Blue Smart IP22 24/16 (1) charger will be completely silent. NIGHT mode is automatically terminated after 8 hours. LOW mode can be terminated manually.

Protection against overheating

The output current will decrease as the temperature rises to 50°C, but the Blue Smart charger will not fail.

Historical record of 40 cycles

The history screen contains historical usage data for the entire life of the charger and detailed statistics for the last 40 charging cycles.

VE.Smart Networking

The VE.Smart network is a wireless device-to-device (D2D) communication network between Victron products using Bluetooth Smart.

Optional battery voltage and temperature compensation and current sensor

The VE.Smart network opens up the possibility to optimise the charging process: a Smart Battery Sense, Smart Battery Monitor or SmartShunt can be used to communicate the battery voltage and temperature or to one or several battery chargers. A Smart Battery Monitor or SmartShunt will also communicate the battery current.

Parallel synchronised loading

Up to ten battery chargers can be synchronised in a VE.Smart network to make them charge the battery as if they were one large charger. The chargers will synchronise the charging algorithm with each other. They will simultaneously switch from one state of charge to another, e.g. from initial charge to absorption.

Parallel synchronised charging has several interesting advantages:

– Redundancy: if one charger stops for any reason, the other chargers will continue to operate.

– Flexibility: a charger only needs to be added to the mains if more power is needed.

– Cost: In general, several low-power chargers will cost less than a single high-power charger.

– Installation: it may be easier to fit several low-power chargers in a small space.
